It didn't work yesterday, but it just might today..
I've been challenging myself to read (or at least listen to) a chapter of a non-fiction book each day. Some days, I manage it; other days, life gets in the way.
But this year, I've decided to revisit some of my favourite personal development books for life and business.
The funny thing is, I've listened to these books countless times, yet every time I return to them, I discover something new. It's fascinating how the same words can feel so different depending on where I am in life. I suppose it's because each time I revisit them, I'm facing a new challenge or stepping into a new opportunity, so the message lands differently.
It reminded me that we learn from every experience - even if it's repeated.
And who knows? What didn't work for us yesterday might actually be the perfect solution today. Growth isn't a straight line, and it's rarely pretty, but the answers we are looking for might just be in the the words we've already heard or the things we've worked on before.
I'll admit, I've been that person who says the dreaded "we tried that before, and it didn't work." Over the years, I've worked hard to approach things with a more open mind, especially when a fresh perspective from a new team member offers an opportunity to revisit an old idea. But, let's be honest, it's not always easy when you've already learned a hard lesson from a previous attempt - and we all get a little battle-weary sometimes.
Still, as I reopen these classic books in 2025, I'm reminded of this:
Every experience - whether a success or failure - has something to teach us. The key is to keep learning with an open mind.
So, here's to rediscovering the lessons we thought we'd learned and finding new meaning in familiar words.
For now, take care and enjoy the rest of your week.
